Saving the Animals of Rowan

Saving the Animals of Rowan (STAR) is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization committed to improving the conditions for the abandoned dogs of Rowan County, Kentucky. We operate on donations and an occasional grant. Donations are tax deductible and go toward vet bills, transport costs, boarding costs, and general operation expenses. We saved over 900 dogs in 2016 thanks to the generosity of community members and local businesses.

Our shelter building is where animals with secured rescue awaiting transport stay temporarily (typically less than a week). Last year, we received enough donations to make much-needed repairs to our kennel space. We were also able to replace our aging transport van!

Our mission is to assist local pet owners with spay/neuter costs, to help re-home unwanted Rowan County pets, and to help educate the public about the importance of spay/neuter, vaccinations, and heartworm/fecal testing for the health of their dogs.
