About

Saving the Animals of Rowan (STAR) is a 501c3 non-profit foster-home-based dog rescue organization committed to improving the conditions for the abandoned dogs of Rowan County, Kentucky, USA. Our shelter building is where animals with secured rescue awaiting transport stay temporarily (typically less than a week). Some of our animals are in foster homes or boarding and all meetings are by appointment. Our members work to find safe and loving homes or rescues for dogs that find themselves in the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Morehead. STAR members are dedicated to reducing the number of dogs killed due to the overcrowded conditions and low local adoption rate at this rural shelter.

We are a small but growing group of caring people who save shelter dogs. We are always in need of volunteers in Rowan County, Kentucky, to help with transporting dogs from shelter to vet to foster and on rescue transports. We also need indoor foster homes for dogs and puppies and volunteers to help with a variety of other tasks including fundraiser events. Our primary goal is to get dogs out of the pound and to the safety of a rescue or a new home. We work solely on donations. Please like our page and help us connect with dog lovers world wide. We cannot do what we do without your support. Thank you!
